Frequently Asked Questions

What is an electric MTB?

An electric MTB is a mountain bike equipped with a motor and battery to assist your pedalling. It makes tough climbs and longer rides more manageable, while still providing the thrill of off-road cycling.

Are E-MTB’s legal?

Yes, Electric MTBs are legal, if they meet regulations—maximum 250W motor and pedal-assist (not throttle-only). Always check your state’s rules before riding.

How far can an electric mountain bike go on one charge?

Range depends on battery capacity, terrain, and usage. Most Electric MTBs offer 40–100 km per charge, making them suitable for trail adventures. However, range can be extended by using a second battery.

Do electric MTBs need more maintenance?

Apart from battery, motor and electronics care, maintenance is similar to that of a regular MTB. At Wollongong Bike Hub, we service the e-MTB brands we sell in-store to keep them trail-ready. For other brands, we can assist with basic repairs, such as tube replacements and brake pad replacements, but we don’t provide full servicing or electrical work on e-bikes purchased elsewhere.

Are E-MTBs worth it?

Yes, an E-MTB is a worthwhile investment especially if you want to ride longer trails, tackle steeper climbs, or simply enjoy cycling with less strain.
